Bio
One thing’s for sure. Sunflower Caravan present something you can hardly ever experience with other bands. You want some fierce key-driven pop? Good. Want to hear some good ole‘ heavy r’ock’n‘roll,
wanna see vintage hundred-kilos heavy vintage hammond organ yelling through guitar distortion pedals? Even better.
After performing on big stages for more than 3 years, Sunflower Caravan are one of the most recognizable and original acts within the Czech music scene. This trio comprising brothers Vit on drums and Andy on keys and vocals completed by Michell's bass
fits together perfectly being in company since their adult years. The boys apparently got excellent instrumental abilities paired with clear visions regarding style and arrangements. The basic factor of their style is undisputably a strong song, a
well-built composition, with certain originality given by the sound of classic hammond organ distorted by a set of guitar effects that would fit Jimi Hendrix pretty well.
This trio, originaly from the very centre of Europe, toured Sweden 3 times, went through big part of Europe in 2007 and '08 (partly as supporting act for Swedish glam rockers The Ark) as well as through three busy festival summers in their homeland. In
December 2008, the band was exclusively invited by Glen Hansard (The Frames, Swell Season) to Dublin as a supporting act at The Frames' NYE gig (at Vicar Street, Dublin). In 2011 the band collaborated with Dresden Dolls drummer Brian Viglione, before
joining a major Czech band TataBojs for part of their 20-gig tour. In 2009 and 2010 Sunflower Caravan played over 160 gigs in Cz and abroad.
Sunflower Caravan released their first full-lenght album on Prague-based indie label Soundsquare Music in February 2009, followed by second effort entitled „A Little Bit More“ a year later (Nov 2010), both albums gained very positive reviews in local
press. In between these two releases frontman Andy added vocals to Sunflower Caravan sound.
"Andy plays piano, organ and synthesizers that sound like distortion guitar sometimes. Bass is michell, Vit on drums. Their music sounds dreamy and heavy, like massive stones falling into a calm lake and splashing water on two people who
are kissing on the beach. "
– Steve Smith, Prague.TV (expats' website and newspapers), Feb 2009
„There's a band called Sunflower Caravan, they're a great band. A three-piece, two brothers and a friend. And they just make beautiful instrumental music ... they, they're just a three-piece, fantastic. We've had them opening for us on a couple of dates
... and their music is really beautiful. So I am a real fan of them.“
– Glen Hansard (Swell season, The Frames) – after asked about what his favourite Czech band is, by NATIONAL POST, a Canadian English-language newspaper based in Toronto, Ontario.
"Sunflower Caravan are talented, energic, spontaneous and original – even if viewed from a critical international angle. "
