Bio a historie
Singer/songwriter/producer/video artist JAMES COOK is very much the Renaissance man. His debut solo album ‘Arts and Sciences’ is an eclectic mix of classic English songs via baroque electronic rock. Recorded in isolation in Turmwerk Studio B,
creative nerve centre of close friend, collaborator and underground electronic icon Chris Corner (IAMX), production advisor to this timeless British pop album.
Cook’s previous incarnation was as frontman and principal writer for NEMO, one of 21st century London’s first, and finest, underground electro rock acts. Between 2004 and 2008, the cult Indie electro group released three albums that helped anticipate and inform the British indie electronic scene. Described by Grammy award winning artist Imogen Heap as ‘London’s best kept secret’, they collaborated together in 2006/7 as both her support act and backing band. During this time, James appeared in and wrote songs for numerous Mighty Boosh episodes, won a best album Czech Grammy and the Montreaux Jazz Festival award for best new band 2007.
After moving to Berlin in 2008, Cook enjoyed a creative rebirth, disbanding NEMO and completing 2009′s Baroque Pop Curio ‘The Dollhouse’ with violinist/string arranger Anne Marie Kirby . Kirby also contributes the wonderful string arrangements on the new solo album.
Cook also worked with Strokes producer Gordon Raphael and The Cinematic Orchestra’s Phil France during this process, and has currently released two stunning promo videos ‘Face to Face’ and ‘End of Summer’. These visual treats were shot, directed and edited by fellow comrade in art, the influential and innovative Chris Corner (IAMX). Two more videos are already in the pipeline (the eponymous ‘Arts and Sciences’ and the whimsical satire of ‘Government Kid’).
